MCS as a Tool for effective Fisheries Enforcement: an appraisal of Ghana

Ghana’s fisheries sector provides food, income and livelihood opportunities for several Ghanaians. However, this sector is in peril due to the prevalence of Illegal, Unregulated, and Unreported (IUU) fishing practices, exacerbated by the activities of foreign-owned Distant Water Fishing Vessels (DWFVs). To curb this menace, there is the need to address existing gaps and improve the human, institutional
and infrastructure capacity in Ghana’s Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) framework.
