FREEDOM CHUKWUDI ONUOHA

Freedom Chukwudi Onuoha is a Professor in the Department of Political Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Coordinator of Security, Violence and Conflict (SVC) Research Group at the University. In addition to a doctorate degree in Political Economy, he holds a certificate in International Security Management, Higher Defence and Strategic Studies, Peace Support Operations Course for Senior Leaders, Disaster Management, Defence and Security Management, and Protection of Civilians, among others.
Freedom serves in consultative capacity for several international, national and civil society organisations. Some of these engagements involved designing and facilitating strategic-level training for senior military, security, media, and corporate officials on civil military relations in complex security operations, countering organised crime and maritime security threats, human rights observance in counterinsurgency operations, preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE), early warning and early response systems (EWERS), and security sector reform (SSR), among others. He is a a team member of the Countering Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea Project (COPIGoG Project) jointly being undertaken by CEMLAWS Africa and Dep. of Political Science, University of Copenhagen
Freedom has a robust publication profile, with over 150 scholarly publications to his credit. His current teaching and research interests focus on diverse aspects of national and transnational security threats, with emphasis on maritime security, climate change, violent extremism, terrorism, insurgency, P/CVE, violent conflict, organised crime, election security, peacebuilding and state fragility.
